Akila Dananjaya cleared to bowl by the ICC

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that Akila Dananjaya’s remodelled bowling action had been cleared to be utilised in international matches by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

His bowling action was reported during the last home Test series against England. The action was tested in Brisbane Australia and proved to be illegal.

This was a telling blow to Sri Lanka’s world cup plans as he was the leading spinner in limited overs cricket. He has been working with the local spin bowling coaches to remodel his action for the past few months. He also participated in the domestic first-class matches and T20 matches to keep his match fitness.

Dhananjaya’s action was tested again in Chennai last week, and he has been added to the upcoming South African ODI series immediately after being cleared.
