World cup 2019 is fast approaching. Yet, Sri Lanka cricket team seems to be experimenting to find the best players for the World Cup Squad 2019. With the popularity for our world cup playing 11 article series, focusing on some of the key players, we at Cricketry Sri Lanka decided to draw your attention towards some of the players who we think deserve a second chance to get in to the World Cup Squad 2019, given their recent form.
A genuine allrounder in Cricket is a player who does equally well with the bat and the ball. Sachithra Senanayaka, at one time our go to spinner always used to be handy with bat. But recently, he is showing a great deal of form and skill with the bat
Sachithra Senanayake the off-spinner has shown terrific performances with the bat during on going Premier Limited Over Tournament. His 150 off just 121 balls followed by two half centuries (66 & 55) make him one of the most inform batsmen of the season. Moreover, he has taken 11 wickets in just 4 matches.
Here are his stats of the most recent first class matches.
We are not sure these stats alone can be used to prove his mettle as a genuine all-rounder. But his promotion in the SSC batting line up gives us another hint towards his skill to bat. Specially in a stong line up such as the SSC. We must also not forget that he was a key member of the T20 world cup winning Sri Lanka team.
With the world cup looming in the horizon and Sri Lanka without a fixed 11 players, let’s see if the selectors give Sachithra a chance in the world cup squal 2019, considering his recent form and his experience in high pressure games.
